What You’ll Learn

Successful graduates of our San Jose MA program will be qualified to gain employment as Medical Assistants. After receiving your diploma, you will have the necessary skillset to perform various administrative and clinical tasks. Our Medical Assisting courses also include extensive instruction in medical terminology, medical office procedures, medical/clinical procedures, basic anatomy and physiology, and special duties common in the field.

Below are some of the specific skills you can expect to develop during our program:

  • Arranging for hospital admission and laboratory services
  • Handling billing or bookkeeping tasks
  • Relaying pharmacy prescriptions

Medical Assistant Program Admissions Requirements for the San Jose Campus

To enroll in our MA program, you will need to obtain a high school diploma or GED. You will also need to meet other requirements, which include but are not limited to the following steps:

1 Complete a career planning session

2 Schedule an admissions interview

3 Take the assessment exam

4 Complete a Unitek application

5 Complete the enrollment agreement

6 Make any financial preparations

MA Program with a Career-Driven Curriculum

During our Medical Assistant program, you will gain vital knowledge about job duties performed in the field. These include laboratory techniques, clinical procedures, pharmaceutical principles, medication administration, and first aid. Other central topics include patient relations and medical law. Most importantly, our curriculum emphasizes ethics in the healthcare field.

At our San Jose campus, you will have access to fully equipped labs that simulate office and clinical settings. Some of our lab equipment includes: microhematocrit centrifuge, blood and urine centrifuge, pulse oximeter, electrocardiogram machine, glucose meters, autoclave machine, and a hemoglobinmeter.

After the successful completion of the classroom instruction, you will be scheduled for a supervised externship. This will provide you with real-world experience as well as networking opportunities.

The San Jose Campus

Enclosed by Santa Teresa Boulevard and Great Oaks Boulevard, our campus is situated near the W. Valley Freeway. There are also numerous establishments in the area, including shopping centers, restaurants, and apartment complexes.

The San Jose campus occupies nearly 30,000 square feet. While enrolled, you will have access to several classrooms, labs, and faculty offices. You can also utilize the campus library and student lounge.

Efficient Programs

By providing you access to healthcare facilities, simulation training, and expert instruction, our ultimate goal is to prepare you for a successful Medical Assisting career in as little time as possible. In fact, all the programs offered at our campus can be completed in a year or less.

Another great benefit of our MA program is that classes are capped around 28 students. This enables greater student participation during simulations and classroom discussions.

Certification Exams

Medical Assistant graduates may also be eligible to take various professional certification exams, including the NCCT exam required for the National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) credential and the American Medical Technologists (AMT) to earn the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) credential. Such credentials are not required to graduate, but may be of value depending on your career goals.

Our campus is ideally located for people who enjoy the great outdoors. The city enjoys about 300 days of sunshine per year, and fall temperatures tend to run between 60 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Not only might this sunny weather improve your overall outlook, but it will provide various opportunities for outdoor activities during your free time. Studying is critical to success, but so is getting plenty of rest and taking the time to recharge.
