Financial Aid Programs at Unitek College

Federal and state grants are forms of financial assistance that typically do not need to be repaid for those who qualify. These awards are generally based on financial need and are determined through the information submitted on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Examples may include the Federal Pell Grant and other need-based federal or state grant programs. Eligibility, award amounts, and availability are determined annually and may vary based on your individual financial circumstances. You can find more detailed information regarding financial aid in the Unitek College catalog.

Scholarships are a form of financial assistance that can help lower your overall education costs and do not require repayment. Unitek College offers institutional scholarship opportunities in accordance with current college catalog guidelines and eligibility requirements. Availability, qualifications, and award amounts may vary by program and campus. In addition to institutional scholarships, students are encouraged to explore and apply for external scholarship opportunities through community organizations, employers, and national foundations to further support their educational goals.

Student loans

Student loans are a common form of financial aid and are borrowed funds that must be repaid with interest. Loans may be provided by the U.S. Department of Education or by private lenders and may be available to students and, in some cases, their parents. Eligible students who complete the FAFSA form may qualify for federal student loans, which have terms established by the federal government and may include fixed interest rates and structured repayment options.

Private educational loans are offered by banks or other financial institutions and are not federally insured. Approval requirements, interest rates, and repayment terms vary by lender. While students may choose to borrow from any lender, Unitek College does not recommend specific private lenders. We encourage responsible borrowing and provide guidance to help students understand loan terms and repayment obligations before accepting funds.

Federal Loans

Eligible students who complete the FAFSA form may qualify for federal student loans, which have terms established by the federal government and may include fixed interest rates and structured repayment options. Federal loan programs may include Direct Loans (Subsidized and Unsubsidized) and Parent PLUS Loans for eligible borrowers.

Private Loans

Private educational loans are offered by banks or other financial institutions and are not federally insured. Approval requirements, interest rates, and repayment terms vary by lender. While students may choose to borrow from any lender, Unitek College does not recommend specific private lenders. We encourage responsible borrowing and provide guidance to help students understand loan terms and repayment obligations before accepting funds. Students with limited or adverse credit history may improve eligibility by applying with a qualified co-borrower, as many lenders require one.

Federal Work-Study

Federal Work-Study (FWS) is a need-based financial aid program that allows eligible students to earn money through part-time employment while enrolled in school. Eligibility is determined through the FAFSA form and requires demonstrated financial need. Students who are interested in participating must complete the FAFSA form, indicate interest in part-time work, and meet program requirements.

FWS participants may obtain paid positions at the college or with approved nonprofit agencies or for-profit organizations, earning at least the current minimum hourly wage. Students are paid based on hours worked rather than receiving funds upfront, and earnings may help offset educational expenses. An added benefit of the program is that FWS earnings are not counted toward the following year’s federal aid eligibility calculation. Interested students should speak with a Financial Aid representative for guidance.

Net price calculator

Unitek College’s Net Price Calculator is an online planning resource that helps students and families estimate the potential net cost of attendance. Based on full-time enrollment for a first-time student, the calculator reflects current aid year costs and awarding policies and assumes submission of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). While the results are estimates and do not represent a final financial aid award or official net price determination, the tool provides general cost and eligibility information to help you plan your educational investment with greater clarity.
