Our Medical Office Administration (MOA) program in San Jose, California, will grant you the skills and knowledge you need to successfully enter the healthcare field. Medical Office Administrators perform many clerical duties for medical offices, insurance companies, and other healthcare facilities. For this profession, responsibilities normally include maintaining medical records, completing bookkeeping tasks, and managing other accounting duties. In our MOA program, you will learn how to perform a variety of these tasks through both traditional and hands-on instruction.

What You’ll Learn

Upon successfully completing our MOA program, you will know how to deliver excellent patient administration. Our classes cover general office skills, medical data processing, and medical office software. Instruction will also be provided on the topics of clinical office procedures and the principles of medical record-keeping.

Graduates of our San Jose program are prepared to work as entry-level Medical Office Assistants and carry out the following tasks:

  • Perform opening and closing office procedures
  • Create electronic health records
  • Leverage software to collect and audit patient information
  • Assign insurance codes for medical diagnoses and procedures
  • Submit health insurance claims for reimbursement
  • Perform entry-level bookkeeping and accounting procedures

MOA Program with a Career-Driven Curriculum

Our MOA curriculum was designed by seasoned faculty with your success in mind. While enrolled in our program, you will receive comprehensive yet efficient instruction through a variety of courses, including:

  • Fundamentals of Health Care
  • Computer Fundamentals
  • Medical Office Administration
  • Business Practices in the Medical Office
  • Health Records Management
  • Medical Insurance Billing
  • Medical Insurance Coding

Upon graduation, you may also be eligible to take numerous certification exams. These include the Electronic Health Records Specialist exam, the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant exam, and the Medical Billing and Coding Specialist exam. While these credentials are not required to graduate, they can be of value depending on your particular career goals. Our faculty is available to advise you about professional certification.

The San Jose Campus

Bordered by Santa Teresa Boulevard and Great Oaks Boulevard, our San Jose campus is located near the W. Valley Freeway. This location is widely accessible for students who commute. As an added convenience, we’re also surrounded by numerous shopping centers, restaurants, and apartment complexes. On campus, students have access to several classrooms, labs, and faculty offices. They can utilize a campus library and break room as well.

To ensure every student receives the attention they deserve, our MOA class sizes are capped. This allows Unitek instructors to provide each student with the assistance they need. Although it can vary by program, our San Jose campus is typically open Monday through Friday between 8:00 am – 10:50 pm. To accommodate your schedule, some of our programs include morning, midday, and evening classes.

Career Preparation

Not only will we prepare you for a fulfilling career, but you can expect to receive simulation training, a supervised externship, and job-search assistance. At San Jose, our MOA students benefit from a combination of theory and hands-on experience. The lab exercises will demonstrate how you can perform successfully in the field, and the externship will allow you to effectively practice what you learned in real-world scenarios.

Specialty Classrooms

San Jose MOA students also benefit from well-furnished classroom and lab settings. Our classrooms are equipped with computer workstations where you can access specialty billing, coding, medical records, and office administration software. You will also utilize a medical lab while learning about CPR, first aid, and patient vital signs.
