What You’ll Learn

In our Hayward Vocational Nursing program, you will benefit from more than 900 hours of practical training in labs, simulations, and other healthcare facilities. Additionally, you will receive in-class instruction taught by our seasoned faculty. We strive to equip our students with the support and confidence they need to excel in the healthcare industry.

LVNs generally assist with the medical care of patients under the direction of doctors and registered nurses (RNs). They care for people who are sick, injured, convalescent or disabled. Our curriculum will teach you how to perform various job duties for this role. These tasks include but are not limited to the following:

Administrative Job Duties

  • Scheduling medical appointments
  • Examining patients

  • Recording medical histories
  • Noting adverse reactions to medication

At Hayward, we maintain a strong relationship with our local healthcare facilities. These efforts allow students like you to participate in supervised externships. In addition, we hold annual program advisory committee meetings (PAC) in order to receive feedback from our local establishments. Are there any prerequisites for the Hayward Vocational Nursing program?

Yes, students who wish to enroll in the Vocational Nursing program in Hayward must first complete a prerequisite course that prepares them for the rigors of learning in a fast-paced academic environment. Topics covered during this Vocational Nursing prerequisite course include study skills, critical thinking, nursing education levels, and the role of a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). Students will also receive instruction on health care communication, web-based nursing resources, dosage calculations, and medical terminology related to the primary systems of the human body. The course consists of 80 hours of instruction and can be completed in as little as 2 weeks.
