Grants are based on financial need and do not need to be repaid.* You may qualify for both federal and state grants. Unitek College participates in the following grant programs:

Student loans are the most common form of financial aid. Loans may be issued by the US Department of Education or by private institutions. Loans may be taken by students and/or their parents and must be repaid with interest. Terms for federally issued loans are public and determined by the federal government. Private lenders are not insured by the federal government, may have variable requirements for application approval, and set their own terms. While students may borrow funds from any lender, Unitek College does not make recommendations regarding private lenders.
Like grants, scholarships represent money that doesn’t need to be repaid. They may be awarded based on a variety of criteria, including academic achievement, extracurricular talent, financial need, and alumni status. They may be provided by institutions, organizations, or even private individuals.

Available to graduates of Unitek College’s Medical Assisting (MA) program who enroll in either Unitek College’s pre-licensure Vocational Nursing (VN)/Practical Nursing (PN) program or Unitek College’s Bachelor of Science (BSN AP) program. The maximum amount of this grant is $2,000.
Available to graduates of Unitek College’s Vocational Nursing (VN)/Practical Nursing (PN) program who enroll in Unitek College’s pre-licensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN-AP) program. The maximum amount of this grant is $10,000.
Available to graduates of Unitek College’s Associate of Science in Vocational Nursing (ASVN) program who enroll in Unitek College’s pre-licensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN AP) program. The maximum amount of this grant is $5,000.
The Ontario Healthcare Workforce Inaugural Grant is available to all students enrolling in 2026 at our new Ontario, CA campus.

Students demonstrating financial need and interest in working part-time while in college may qualify for the FWS program. You will earn at least the hourly minimum wage and could work at your school, a non-profit agency, or a for-profit business while enrolled in classes. FWS awards are limited and awarded on a first come, first served basis. Interested parties should contact Unitek’s financial aid team and be prepared with a resume and fill out job applications to be considered for an interview.

The tool is based on full-time enrollment as a first-time freshman and is based on current aid year costs and awarding policies. It assumes the student will submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA form must be submitted by 11:59 pm Central Time (CT) on June 30th of each calendar year. Any corrections or updates must be submitted by the date provided annually by the Department of Education. See the Federal Deadlines site link below.

Does the FAFSA application determine loans and grants?
Yes. The information provided on your FAFSA application is used to determine your Student Aid Index (SAI). The SAI is an index number used to determine your eligibility for both federal grants and loans.
If you are awarded student loans, does this mean you have to take the loans?
No. If you are awarded both federal grants and loans, you can choose to accept only the grants. If you are only awarded loans, you may accept all, part, or none of the awarded funds. You can even cancel all or part of a loan before it is disbursed. Full details will be provided in your promissory note.
