Our program gives students the education they’ll need to excel as a Pharmacy Technician. In California, Pharmacy Technicians are responsible for a variety of tasks when it comes to the handing of pharmaceutical products. These tasks usually include the receiving, distribution, maintenance, and packaging of medicinal goods.
Pharmacy Technicians assist licensed pharmacists and fill an important role. In the healthcare industry, Pharmacy Technicians typically work in retail pharmacies or hospitals. Their duties include the following: stocking inventory for various types of medication, managing patient medication records, dispensing medication into containers, and creating prescription labels. At times, they are also responsible for assembling insurance claim forms.
While Pharmacy Technicians perform similar duties in a hospital setting, they often prepare commercially unavailable medication as well as sterile intravenous medication. They also deliver medicine to nursing units, assemble a day’s worth of medication for patients, and gather quality improvement data.
Expected Growth of Pharmacy Technicians
Experts anticipate that employment opportunities will grow 12 percent by 2026.1 According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, demand for Pharmacy Technicians is expected to grow due to the increasing need for prescription medications. Such a need will require more Pharmacy Technicians to assist licensed pharmacists.
