Tips to Reduce Stress During the Holidays

People are often stressed by all sorts of questions. If you’re pursuing a new career in Medical Assisting, one of these questions might be “what does Medical Assistant school cost?” Of course, the answer is greatly dependent on the institution and the type of school you’d like to attend. Check out one of our previous blog posts for more information about choosing the right school.

You might also be feeling some stress related to the holidays. This is entirely understandable, and if you’re feeling a little stressed, rest assured that you’re not alone. A recent blog post by Kaiser Permanente has given all of us some excellent advice on how to cope with various stressors.

Below are some ways you can stay healthy during this holiday season!

Unitek College Reports on Tips to Reduce Stress During the Holidays

+ Get a flu shot: While the flu shot isn’t for everyone, it is still a wise choice for most people. Not only can the flu cause you to miss work and time with your family, but it can potentially cause serious illness or even hospitalization. A great defense against the flu is the flu shot. According to Kaiser, “It protects you, as well as everyone around you—your kids, your partner, relatives, friends, and anyone else who may be at risk.”

+ Make health-conscious travel preparations: Holiday travel can certainly be full of surprises, and some are not always welcome! Kaiser has provided several tips for how to stay healthy before, during, and after your trip.

+ Throw in fitness when you can: It’s not always easy to squeeze in a gym session or go for a run during the holidays. However, you might want to still try; workouts can help combat stress, they can boost your energy, and they can burn the extra calories you’re likely consuming. Kaiser recommends doing the following to help get some extra fitness in your day…

  • When you run errands, try parking your car further from the store, and take the stairs rather than the elevator.
  • Put together a walking group with your friends or go out with your dog. If you don’t have a dog, you could always start an exercise group with your neighbors (and hopefully their cute dogs!)
  • It can be tough to find time for a 30-minute workout. Instead, try to do two 15-minute or three 10-minute mini workouts throughout the day.

+ Try and be healthy with your extra helpings: The holidays are a great time to indulge in comfort food, but they’re also a good time to pick some healthier options. Enjoy your favorite dishes while still bringing a healthy dish or two to a party. You can also swap one starchy item on your plate with a vegetable or fruit, and you can doctor some richer recipes to include lower calorie—but equally delicious!—ingredients.
