The only industry that has not faced any problem during the recession period is probably the healthcare industry. So there are opportunities in this sector especially the nursing sector. I do agree that the fact that there is shortage of nursing staff and hence there is a huge requirement in this sector. Thanks for this informative post.

This article is not entirely true. I was wrong when I blogged on this site that "you're not going to have a hard time finding a job" last year in March of 2008. The economic conditions have certainly affected us nurses too, especially new grad LVN's looking employment here in the SF Bay Area.
I am a Unitek LVN graduate, class of July 2008, and I have heard that only 6 of my 30+ classemates who have graduated with me have found a job as of Jan 09. Although I myself have a job, my present employer just cut my hours to part-time. Before I was hired in Nov of 08, I had a very difficult time finding full-time employment as an LVN! My licensed, graduated classmates have been expressing to me the frustration that they are experiencing. Even some new RN graduates of DeAnza College have told me that they have had a hard time looking for work at hospitals; so much that they have resorted to working at SNF's. Things have been tough for all new nursing graduates. So don't believe all the media that you hear and read. The reality is much different. Employers are "desperate" for experienced nurses, not new grads.
I believe that Unitek College has an obligation to improve its job placement program for all its nursing graduates and so far, unfortunately, does not meet my expectations. Be cautious of signing up for the nursing programs in this economic climate! You will not even be guaranteed a job interview! That's the truth.
